Lake Townsend Raw Water Intake

Scope of Services:

  • Construct Temporary Crane Access Trestle
  • Install Cofferdam & Dewater at Each Section
  • Install Three 48”Steel Pipes at Each Section

This project was an existing water treatment plant owned by the City of Greensboro, NC. Cape Romain was a subcontractor for Seaside Environmental Company. The project consisted of installation of three parallel 48” steel intake pipes into Lake Townsend. The three pipes were installed vertically over each other on a pile supported steel frame. Each pipe had a stainless steel intake screen and air backwash piping. Piping extended 425’ into Lake Townsend. All construction was performed inside of a dewatered coffer cell. A 400’ long x 28’wide temporary trestle was installed and later removed for crane access into the lake.
