Wilmington Pocket Parks

  • Owner: City of Wilmington, NC
  • Construction Cost: $337,000
  • Completion Date: Jan 2014 Owner: Daniel Island Company Construction

Scope of Services:

This project consisted of installing approximately 60 LF of PZ-27 steel sheet piling and Helix anchors at Muter’s Alley River walk access. Work also included storm drainage replacement and rip rap placement.
The new sheet piling was to replace a failing existing bulkhead. Since it was beneath the boardwalk, the boardwalk was removed. After the project began, Cape Romain Contractors discovered that Helix anchors could not be installed due to large amounts of buried debris. The anchors were eliminated and the cantilevered wall was braced with additional riprap. Likewise, the installation of the new drain line was challenging because of the excessive amount of buried debris.

Finally, after installation of the new bulkhead and drainage system, the timber boardwalk and all pocket park features were restored.
