Project Description
The Town of Hilton Head contracted Cape Romain Contractors to construct six breakwater structures on Pine Island following completion of beach renourishment activities. The purpose of the breakwaters is to protect the renourished beach from erosion into the harbor, which had occurred previously. The project includes placement of approximately 11,500 tons of SCDOT Class E and Class F riprap, installation of approximately 39,700 square feet of marine rock mattresses, and approximately 14,800 square feet of composite geogrid/fabric.
Construction is currently approximately 85% complete and is tracking about one month ahead of schedule.
Scope of Services

Constructed six Class E and Class F riprap breakwaters for shoreline stabilization along Pine Island.

Installed approximately 11,610 tons of armor stone for the breakwater system.

Furnished and installed approximately 39,754 square feet of stone-filled marine mattresses and 14,800 square feet of geogrid/fabric composite.

Performed site preparation, warning signage, vibration monitoring, and final restoration.
