Fort Sumter Pier Repair

Cape Romain Contractors was a subcontractor to Terra Site Constructors, LLC for the rehabilitation of the ferry dock at Fort Sumter National Monument in Charleston Harbor. The original pier, built in the early 1990s was in disrepair and required a significant upgrade to the fender system berthing the passenger ferries.  Crews removed the old fender system and installed an intricate new steel framed structure to better handle the berthing loads from passenger ferries.  Dive crews repaired damaged and deteriorated piles by installing fiberglass cathodic protection pile jackets designed to preserve the reinforcing steel and extend the life of the structure. Damage to the superstructure was repaired by replacing five of the prestressed concrete deck planks and patching spalls in the deck topping and cast in place caps.
