Project Description
Cape Romain contracted with Crowder Construction Company to build the 1,032’ long x 72’ wide Cosgrove Extension Bridge in North Charleston. This bridge will allow unfettered rail access to the new South Carolina Ports Authority Navy Base Intermodal Facility.
Each of the 11 pier’s foundations contain 4 each 78” Ø concrete drilled shafts (Lee & Sims Drilling) that support 48” Ø vertical concrete columns. The cast-in-place pier caps are 71’ x 5’ x 4.5’ of solid concrete with 80 AASHTO 54” modified bulb tee girders spanning between them.
The concrete deck has a 56’ wide roadway section between the concrete barriers and a 12’ wide raised multi-use path for pedestrians with decorative fence and railings running the length of the bridge.
